DP83869HM: SFD documentation

Part Number: DP83869HM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

Tool/software:

Hello,

  1. Where can I find more details on how to configure and use the SFD on the DP83869? I can only find this app note for another part (DP83867 ):  https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla242/snla242.pdf.
  2. Can the SFD be used to filter for only PTP packets? If so, where can I find information on how to implement this?
  3. Also, does the SFD add a latency of 8ns to the baseline latency? Previous e2e's don't make it clear if it's a fixed 8ns or if that's an adjustable value/increment.

Regards,

Jennifer

  • Hi Jennifer,

Please expect feedback on this query by Wednesday.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Jennifer,

Where can I find more details on how to configure and use the SFD on the DP83869?

Please refer to Section 7.3.2 in the datasheet for SFD configuration.

The registers noted (0x134 and 0x1E0) are sufficient to configure SFD.

Can the SFD be used to filter for only PTP packets? If so, where can I find information on how to implement this?

SFD cannot be used to filter PTP packets on DP83869.

Also, does the SFD add a latency of 8ns to the baseline latency? Previous e2e's don't make it clear if it's a fixed 8ns or if that's an adjustable value/increment.

SFD adds a fixed latency that will have some variation between links. For information on how to monitor and calculate this latency, please refer to section 7.3.2.1.1 and 7.3.2.1.2. This latency cannot be adjusted.

    Thank you,

    Evan
