TCAN1043A-Q1: CAH short to battery, CANL drops

Part Number: TCAN1043A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

When we are doing short to GND and short to battery test with TCAN1043ADMTRQ1, there is some problem:

1. CANH short to battery, CANL occurs voltage waveform be pulled low.

2. CANL short to GND, CANH occurs voltage waveform goes high.

We are most worry about this red block, it can drop to around 3V.

Could you please help to advise what makes this happened?

Thank you

Best,

Frank

  • Hello Team,

    Looking forward for your insights.

    Thanks

  • Frank,

This is because in either case, when the transceiver is trying to drive dominant, the respective pin will still be driven to it's nominal level, with some contention due to the short. So in a nominal case, during a dominant pulse, CANH will increase to 3.2V-3.8V and CANL will decrease to 1.2-2V. When the short to battery is applied to CANH, CANL will still be driven to a low level, but again, it doesn't go all the way to it's nominal level because of the short to battery applied to CANH. This is the same for the other case, where CANL is shorted to GND, CANH will still be driven to VCC with some voltage drop due to leakage and the GND short.
