TUSB4020BI: Example of implementing 1:1 in a USB device using a 2:1 USB hub

Hi,

I am looking for a USB2.0 retimer with a reclock function. I looked for products on the market, but could not find anything. Do you know why there are no such ICs on the market?(Because USB2.0 is half-duplex and has technical limitations, etc.)

Also, are there any examples of using a 2:1 USB hub such as the TUSB4020BI to implement a 1:1 inside a USB device for repeater purposes? Is it possible to configure the following with a USB-C product that supports USB3.0?

Or is it possible to use the TIDA-002870BI (USB3.0 2:1 hub) for retimer purposes?

Thanks,

Conor

  • Hi Conor,

Unfortunately, we do not have any devices that are meant to serve solely as USB2.0 Retimers. I can't say as to why there are no such products, but I imagine the cost for making this product would exceed that of a redriver, and typically, a USB2 signal is spec'd for up to 5 meters, leaving few situations where a retimer would be needed over a simple redriver.

As for Example or reference designs of incorporation a hub as a 1:1 retimer, I can't say we have any of those either. Sorry about that.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
