TCAN4550-Q1: Can I wire VCCOUT to VIO

Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a 5V MCU being powered from the VCCOUT from the TCAN4550, I looked on the datasheet about the VIO pin matching the microprocessor's IO pins and was wondering if it's okay to wire VCCOUT directly to the VIO pin due to space constraints so that I don't need to add an extra LDO onto the board.

  • Hi bchan,

Yes.  The VIO rail is used to set the voltage reference level for the digital IO level shifters to match the MCU voltage, as well as to power the OSC1/2 Clock/Crystal circuitry.  The rest of the device is powered from the VSUP supply pin.

Because VCCOUT is on when the device is not in Sleep Mode, and it is powering the MCU, there should be no issue.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
