DP83TG720EVM-MC: Reference Schematics: Polarity of MDI

Part Number: DP83TG720EVM-MC

Tool/software:

Hello,

It is shown that the mirror mode of the 1000Base-T PHY DP83867IRRGZT is enabled in the docu DP83TG720 Media Converter Evaluation Module.

The data sheet also says "In Mirror mode, the polarity of the signals is also reversed."

Regarding the Channel A and C, why is TD_A_P of the PHY connected to D4+ on the RJ45? The schematics is presented in the Page 12.

Similarly, TD_A_N ---> D4-

TD_C_P ---> D2+

TD_C_N ---> D2-

Should they be reversely connected within each pair?

However, the Channel B and Channel D seem to be connected correctly:

TD_B_P ---> D3-

TD_B_N ---> D3+ and

TD_D_P ---> D1-

TD_D_N ---> D1+

The connection in the REF is summarized here:

Kind regards,

Neo

  • Hi Neo,

    As defined by the IEEE 802.3 standard, the PHY has the ability to detect and correct polarity changes. Because of this, the connections for channel A and C are good. For mirror mode, the channels  A/D and B/C are also swapped with each other, which we can observe in the schematic connections.

    Regards,
