For the SPI register Scratch_Pad_SPI (Fh), what is the purpose of this register?

Just to test SPI communication? Is that necessary?

    Yes, this is one primary use of the Scratch Pad register. You can use it to test/confirm writes/reads in software, or you could use it to write and store information. Also, I've seen the Scratch Pad used as another method of testing to make sure that data is properly being stored within the device.

    It is not needed/required for proper use. It is fully up to the user if they'd like to use the register for debugging or for any implementation in their final system.
