Hi Team,

I was looking for TSN compliant Ethernet controllers and found DP83867 part. While referring to the EVM DP83867E Dual-Port TSN PCIe Application Interface Card schematics, PCIe host interface page, the PCIe interface signals from the host are directly considered as SGMII interface signals.

Is it possible to use the PCIe lines as SGMII lines directly? Kindly clarify.

As per my understanding, In this Dual-Port TSN PCIe Application Interface Card, the PCIe lines from the host is directly converted to TSN compliant Ethernet lines using DP83867 chip. So, shall I use this DP83867 chip in a PCIe line and convert it to TSN compliant Ethernet interface?.

Provide necessary support and clarify my doubts.

Hello,

PCIe lines are just a physical medium in which SGMII can be communicated across. It should be no different than dedicated SGMII lines to the MAC in a more traditional PHY application.

Hi ,

If I want to use the DP83867E Ethernet Card in a PC, the standard PCIe slot is sufficient or if I need to connect MAC, help me with suggestions of how to implement the MAC to this DP83867E Ethernet card.

Hello,

It would depend on what is the available connection between PHY and MAC. Traditionally, the PHY is placed close enough to the MAC that there is no need for PCIe medium; only routing 4 total traces (2x differential at 100 Ohm characteristic impedance) is sufficient.

Hi,

Could you please clarify the below queries regarding the TSN compliant DP83867E chip:

i) The connection between PHY and MAC in the mentioned evaluation card.

ii) Also, provide details about the location of the MAC used in DP83867E: Dual-Port TSN PCIe Application Interface Card.

iii) Whether the below standards compliance can be achieved with this part?

IEEE 802.1AS, IEEE 802.3br, IEEE 802.1Q, IEEE 802.1Qav, IEEE 802.1Qbv, IEEE 802.1Qbu/802.1Qbp, (IEEE 802.1Qci), (IEEE 802.1Qcc), IEEE 802.1CB

Hi Harish,

1) The MAC and PHY would be connected via SGMII.

2) The MAC would be connected via PCIE connection.

3) I believe this part only does IEEE802.3 related activities. Anything that requires timestamping would be done in a higher level IC. The PHY does support Start of Frame Detect to assist with time stamping for IEEE1588.

Could you please clarify how the DP83867E chip is TSN compliant and what are all the TSN features the chip supports ?

Also, could you please suggest an high level IC which can support all the features of TSN as you mentioned earlier.
