USB-TO-GPIO2: USB-TO-GPIO unable to connect to device

Part Number: USB-TO-GPIO2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL116

Tool/software:

We have a a problem with some of the last USB-TO-GPIO adapters we received.

Some work and some cannot be connected -> "unable to connect to device, please check power and the connections to the hardware."

Also a Firmware change or update is not possible -> "no adapter found!"

The Version of the USB-TO-GPIO is the first one without a "2" in the end.

USB-TO-GPIO

LOT: 362520KRY

TKY(1T) 6202135ZE9

LBL: 17A (L)TO:1185

Is there anything we can do to make them work?

Since they seem to be discontinued and replaced by the Version USB-TO-GPIO2 we cannot buy them anymore.

  • Hi,

What device are you trying to detect?

We do recommend updating to the 2022 USB-TO-GPIO2 adapter

    Best regards,

    Britton

  • It does not matter which device, because we cannot connect to the USB-TO-GPIO adapter itself at first.

It is a battery with a BMS system inside which can only communicate with the olf version of the USB-TO-GPIO adapter, so it is not possible to update to the newer version for us and it is mandatory to get the version we have to work.

    Kind regards,
    Michael

  • Hi,

Is the problem that the downloadable software does not recognize the USB-TO-GPIO?  This could be a windows issues as that software was written over 10 years ago under an older version of windows.  Which TI battery IC are you using?

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • The bq wizard and also the update software does not recognize the USB-TO-GPIO.

Its the same behavior on like 8 different PC's and notebooks.

The other USB-TO-GPIO adapters from the same order and also older ones we have are working without problems on the same PC's.

Some of them are running Windows 10 and some Windows 11.

    We are using BMS BQ78PL116

  • I hate bouncing you back to the interface forum but this is not anything that the gauge team can help with. The gauge GUI requires the old USB to GPIO adapter and that wasn't developed by the gauge team so we don't have any way to fix your windows problems.

I'm not a windows expert but I'd think that you can check if they enumerate as the same hardware device (product and vendor ID) as the working ones. If they don't then this looks like a defective product.

  • I have now 3 different USB-TO-GPIO adapters on my desk, all came with the last delivery.

All the serial numbers and everything else is exactly the same, even the Seal Date (10/18/23).

One of them is working on every PC we have, the other 2 not on a single one.

I guess the 2 are just broken then?

The LED's light up, but nothing more.

I guess it cannot be a Windows problem, if one is working perfectly fine.

  • This does indicate that you got defective units. Do they show up on Windows Device Manager?
