PCA9306: PCA9306 translate between 3.3V and 3.6V

Part Number: PCA9306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LSF0002

Tool/software:

I am confused about how to configure the PCA9306 when VREF2 = 3.6V and VREF1 = 3.3V.

Since the voltage difference is less than the threshold voltage of 0.6V should we switch configuration as shown in Figure 8.5 of the datasheet?

  • Hi Joel,

Yes, 8-5 is more appropriate as 3.6 V is not greater than Vref 1+0.7 V for 8-6 translation. Please further ensure Vref1=Vref2, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • In general, a difference of 0.3 V does not need translation.

The PCA9306's only I/O voltage requirement is that no pull-up voltage is lower than VREF1. You can connect VREF1 to any lower voltage (2.5 V or 1.8 V), or VREF2 to a higher voltage (5 V), if available in your circuit.

Or just use the LSF0002 with VBIAS = 3.3 V.
