TLK10031: 1GBASE-KX Mode Auto Negotiation?

Hi all,

I am investigating the TLK10031 in the 1GBASE-KX 1:1 mode, but I need to know if the part is capable of auto-negotiation during this. Please see table 7-2 of the datasheet below.

Will the TLK10031 support a 1:1 1GBASE-KX mode with auto negotiation enabled?

Hi Filipe,

TLK10031 supports Clause 73 auto-negotiation which selects the highest speed of 10G-KR or 1G-KX. If the link partner supports Clause 73 AN and only advertises 1G-KX, then the TLK10031 will be configured in 1G-KX mode.

Thank you for the speedy response.

What interfaces are supported on the Low-Speed side (in 1:1 1000Base-KX Mode) and whether they require Auto Negotiation. Which interfaces shown in Figure 7-2 of the datasheet specifically support this?

Hi Filipe,

Auto-negotiation only occurs on the HS side. The LS side will send idles at 3.125 Gbps until ready. If the HS link comes up at 1G-KX, then the LS side will switch to 1:1 1G-KX mode and 3 of the 4 LS lanes will be turned off. The following interface will be selected in this case.

Hi Filipe,

In 1G-KX mode, the TLK device is expecting 1.25 Gbps 8b/10b encoded data on both the LS and HS sides.
