The absolute maximum ratings allow up to 100 mA, so 6 mA will not damage the device. But for currents above 2 mA, VOL is no longer guaranteed.
The Ro pin outputs 3.3 V when high. Why is the pull-up to a lower voltage? Is this an attempt at level shifting?
Hello,
As long as the datasheet parameters are followed there should be no damage to the device.
However, as Clemens mentions, it would best to select a 2.5V compatible device if 2.5V out is desired.
Please refer to this application for receiver options with integrated level shifting: Level Shift No More: Support Low Voltage I/O Signals into a FPGA, Processor, or ASIC (Rev. A)
