TCAN1145-Q1: Additional current when sending frames

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We have one unit using TCAN1145-Q1 with selective frame wake up. After the unit enter sleep mode, the current is 0.05mA. While during the test, anytime it sent out frame, the unit current will jump from 0.1mA to 0.5mA. After the frame sent out, communication ends, the current can recover to 0.05mA.

According to the datasheet, there is a additional 0.55mA when selective wake is enabled and bus active” . Can I say the high current we saw on the TCAN1145-Q1 is due to the active mode? This makes the totoal current exceed the limit, do we have any method can make it lower? Is it the feature of TCAN1145 and selective wake up?

Thanks

Best,

Frank

  • Hi Frank,

This additional current is only needed when the CAN bus is active so that the internal PN receiver can monitor the CAN bus for a WUF. Once the CAN bus is silent. This additional current will no longer be consumed.

This makes the totoal current exceed the limit, do we have any method can make it lower?

Can you clarify which limit is exceeded? 0.5mA (500uA) is within the 550uA maximum.

This makes the totoal current exceed the limit, do we have any method can make it lower?

There is no method to reduce this current if selective wakeup is enabled in sleep mode, it is a device specification.
