PCA9306: Minimum Vth over all PVT

Part Number: PCA9306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9416

Tool/software:

Hello,

My customer has some questions about Vth.
According to the datasheet the Vth is around 0.6V at room temp.

My customer would like to use VREF1=1.2V+/-1% and VREF2=1.8V+/-1%.
In the worst case, VREF2-VREF1 could be 0.57V at room temp.
Under this case, PCA9306 could not work correctly?
Down to how much Vth, could PCA9306 work over all PVT variations?
Other than PCA9306, any other TI level shifter working at VREF1=1.2V+/-1% and VREF2=1.8V+/-1% over all PVT variations?

Best regards,

K.Hirano

  • Hi Hirano-san,

This will most likely work- the PCA9306 datasheet recommends above 0.6V difference between VREF2 and VREF1 to provide ample room for the FET to fully switch on/off during transition states. Customer may also see the TCA9416 supporting 1.2V to 1.8V translation.

    Regards,

  • Hi K. Hirano,

For proper level translation when using this device, consider footnote (1) in the datasheet.

If the customers power supplies at worst case cause the difference of 0.57V, then technically the customer is outside datasheet specifications.

The PCA9306 would still level translate, but some of the electrical characteristics might not be on par with the datasheet specs. Electrical specs like "Ron" could be affected.

    Regards,
