TCA9509: Datasheet specification inquiry

Part Number: TCA9509
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9517A

Tool/software:

Hi Team

My client has some questions about how the datasheet specifications should be viewed.

1. The customer said that VIL VIH VOL VOH these parameters have a maximum value and a minimum value or an intermediate value. Which one should be compared to be correct, or should it be within this range? In addition, why do some have only maximum values and no minimum values?

2.Can you also help explain what VLC is?

for example: the TCA9509 shows the VILC is MIN: 0.11V TYP:0.15V,

That means the waveform will <0.15 >0.11, or I misunderstanding.

Thanks,

Boyan

  • Hi Boyan,

    1. The customer said that VIL VIH VOL VOH these parameters have a maximum value and a minimum value or an intermediate value. Which one should be compared to be correct, or should it be within this range? In addition, why do some have only maximum values and no minimum values?

The VIL/VIH are based off the I2C standard.

The VOL is based off of the buffers ability to drive a low output signal.

The VOH is "driven" by the pull-up resistor on the I2C bus.

2.Can you also help explain what VLC is?

I explained this in the TCA9517A thread, it is essentially the same as in that device except for the direction

VILC is the minimum voltage needed to pass a LOW from  A-side to B-side. It is recommended to ensure that all devices on the A-side of the TCA9509 are able to drive below a VILC(min). This means <0.11V for the respective voltage range.

  • HI Tyler

    here is Tommy from ACCTON

I have some question for the TCA9509 spec

in the befoe we use the spec like picture below

    TCA9517A

    input VIL Aside

    input VIH Aside

    >-0.5
    <0.15V

    >0.7VCCA
    <1.8V

    TCA9517A

    ouput VOL Bside

    <0.2V

    TCA9517A

    input VOL Aside

    <0.3V

    TCA9517A

    output VIL Aside

    output VIH Aside

    >-0.5V
    <0.3VCCB

    >0.7VCCB
    <5.5V

    that inculding the VILC

If there has any wrong, pleasw tell me

    Thanks

    Tommy

  • Hi Tommy,

The numbers look correct, but I am assuming the parameters were mislabeled, please see updated table below:

    TCA9509

    input VIL Aside

    input VIH Aside

    >-0.5
    <0.15V

    >0.7VCCA
    <1.8V

    TCA9509

    ouput VOL Bside

    <0.2V

    TCA9509

    input VOL Aside

    <0.3V

    TCA9509

    output VIL Bside

    output VIH Bside

    >-0.5V
    <0.3VCCB

    >0.7VCCB
    <5.5V
