Hi TI Team:

Can the DS110DF111/DS110DF125 used for 10G PON services, which the upstream require burst mode capabilities for the CDR , receivers, and transmitters.  The DS110DF111/ DS110DF125 locking time is 30mS.

    Hi Sean,

    Retimers such as DS110DF111 and DS125DF111 likely cannot support PON burst mode. This is because retimers rely on extracting the clock signal from incoming data to achieve CDR lock. Periods of data and no data transmission will cause the retimer to continually lose and regain lock, which can result in unexpected lock behavior and lost data.

    Redrivers such as DS125BR111 and DS100BR111 can support PON burst mode. Unlike retimers, redrivers do not include a CDR and do not lock to incoming signals. Therefore redrivers can simply apply equalization through periods of data and no data transmission without any issues.
