DP83867IS: PHY Strapping on SGMII_CO pins

Part Number: DP83867IS

Tool/software:

Good day,

I am using the DP83867IS Ethernet PHY with 4-wire SGMII. This only utilizes the SI/SO pairs. I do however use the SGMII_CO pins for strapping for some addresses.

The datasheet states the following regarding balanced loads on the differential pairs:
RX_D1 is not a strap input, but this pin must be populated with the same strap resistors chosen
for RX_D0. RX_D0 and RX_D1 form an SGMII differential pair. The dummy straps on RX_D1 are
required to provide a balanced load for this SGMII differential pair.

I understand the purpose of duplicating the strap resistors within used differential pairs, but do I need to add the strapping to SGMII_CO_n (RX_D1) if I am not using the SGMII_CO pair?

Below is an example.

  • Hi Nicole,

Since you are not using the SGMII clock pins, it is not required to duplicate the resistors on RX_D1.

However, if there is a need to use these clock pins later, they would need the appropriate resistor value to be added to RX_D1.

    Best,

    Vivaan
