DP83867IR: DP83867IR connect INTEL i210 MDI ( Transformer-less)

If the MDI interface of DP83867IR is to be connected to INTEL i210-IT,
Connect via PCB trace (not via external Cable)
So is Transformer unnecessary?
Is it possible to connect directly? Or at least through AC coupling capacitor?

    Hi Ben,

    Unfortunately, DP83867 does not support AC coupling caps isolation. If you want to use AC couple caps application, we recommend to use DP83869 instead of DP83867.

    We are follow DP83TG720 EVM board design.

    The RJ45 on the left side of the EVM block diagram contains a Transformer inside.

    But because
    1. Insufficient PCB space
    2. Currently, DP83867 and i210-IT are on the same PCBA, without any wires.


    Is it possible to connect DP83867 and I210-IT through AC coupling capacitor without the need for RJ45 internal Transfermer?
    If according to your notification DP83867 does not support AC coupling design,
    So is it possible to connect directly to i210-IT?

    Sorry I might misunderstand your statement

    Are you looking for MAC (RGMII) back to back interface application? Or are you looking for on board MDI connection?

    • We do support back to back MAC interface for DP83867

    If possible, could you let me know which interface you want to connect INtel i210-IT with?

    Hi Ben,

    Unfortunately, DP83867 does not support transformless application on MDI interface. Could you use transformer between the two PHY. If you are looking for transformerless application, we highly recommend DP83869.
