TSD15C: Query on TVS

Part Number: TSD15C

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have query on TVS diode. In given circuit, if TVS is operated greater than breakdown voltage(but less than clamping voltage) repeatedly for very short duration (in < 500nS), Will TVS life be impacted ?

Thanks,
Sandeep.

  • Hi Sandeep,

If it's clamping a transient condition with short pulses around 500ns it might be able to clamp this without damage.

Our TVS diodes are specified to IEC 61000-4-2 and IEC 61000-4-5 standard waveforms, so the performance for any arbitrary waveform in your application should be tested on your PCB. The peak current flow during this transient cannot be too high or it will damage the TVS.

The TSD15C supports up to 12 A of surge current for the 8/20us waveform.

Given the transient you described with a duration of 500ns or below, this TVS can support higher peak currents than 12 A for a shorter pulse width.

    Regards,

    Sebastian
