MAX3227E: Schematic review and suggestions

Part Number: MAX3227E

Tool/software:

Hello, I'm trying to use MAX3227E for converting UART to RS232.

Can someone please check schematic and provide review?

Thank you!

  • Looks OK.

Please ensure that all capacitors are connected with traces that are as short as possible.

  • Hi Saero,

Schematic looks good. Output pins like ready and invalid can be left open. Schematic pinout matches the datasheet pinout. Capacitor values look good. C25 can connect to Vcc.

Overall no issues from what I can see. As Clemen's pointed out, keep capacitors close to the device.

  • Thank you!

  • Can ready and invalid pins drive LEDs? For indication?

  • Hi Saero,

It depends how much current you need to pull with the LED. The VoL of the ready pin looks like it does 0.4V max at 1.6mA. If you try to pull 3mA I would suspect the VoL will shift up maybe to 0.8V. With a 3.3V supply this really only leaves around 2.5V for the Vfd which can vary depending on the color of the LED.
