DP83822I: Can the PHY IC control its internal I/O ports without communication with the MCU?

We are using the DP83822IRHBR and controlling it through an MCU.

Here's a question for you..

Can the PHY IC(DP83822IRHBR) itself control its internal I/O ports (e.g., LED1) to be either HIGH or LOW without communication with the MCU by receiving commands from outside on the Ethernet input/output Ports(TD_P/N, RD_P/N)?

We are going to give commands to the Ethernet input/output ports (TD_P/N, RD_P/N) of the DP83822IRHBR from and external PC or another third-party controller.

Hello,

For DP83822 to reconfigure its GPIO to be statically high or low, this would require SMI access. Else, these pins will be functioning as default per datasheet.

you mean that the Gpio of the phy IC can only be acessed through the mdc and mdio pins, right?

Hi David,

The configurability of these pins can only be done via SMI. The PHY will not adjust its configuration based off of data on the MDI.
