TUSB8041: Inquiry Regarding TUSB8041RGCR Configuration for Bus-Powered Operation

Tool/software:

Hi,

I would like to seek clarification regarding the configuration and settings required to operate the TUSB8041RGCR in a bus-powered mode. Specifically, I have the following questions:

  1. Configuration for Bus-Powered Operation
Could you please provide detailed guidance on:
      - The necessary pin settings for bus-powered operation?
      - The required register settings to support this mode?

  2. Setting "bMaxPower" in the USB Configuration Descriptor
In the USB configuration descriptor, the "bMaxPower" field specifies the maximum current consumption. However, I understand that the TUSB8041 does not have a register setting to modify this value. Could you confirm whether this is correct? If there are any recommendations for addressing this limitation, please share them.

Thanks,

Conor

  • Hi Conor:

There is no specific register for self-powered or bus-powered got TI hub.

Meeting the USB 3.0 max current requirements of 900 mA per port.  If the max power consumption reported in the USB descriptors from the hub and the devices is greater than 900 mA, new devices may not enumerate properly, and resets may occur.

so not recommend bus powered solution for TI hub.

    Best
