TCAN1043-Q1: Wake-up question

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043

Tool/software:

Hi expert,

Customer wants to evaluate if TCAN1043-Q1 can be used in below situation, please help to confirm. Please help to reply this question by today because it is critical. Thanks.

  • Disconnect the resistor R176 as below to disable INH pin. And TCAN1043-Q1 would be waked-up by CAN bus. Can TCAN1043-Q1 work normally when disconnect R176 (disable INH)?
  • What the power consumption of TCAN1043-Q1 when it wake-up once without R176 (Disable INH)?

  • It means INH pin is float when disable INH

  • Hi Ryker,

A power management IC (PMIC) is typically connected to the INH pin. This PMIC will then control the VCC and VIO levels for the CAN transceiver.

For example, let's say the device is in Sleep mode. Once a wake up event is detected on the bus, the device enters Standby mode, which sets INH high. Because INH turns on the PMIC, VCC and VIO is supplied to TCAN1043 then the MCU can set the device into Normal mode.

Without INH, TCAN1043 will either need to have VCC and VIO constantly powered or some method must be designed to turn VCC and VIO on/off to save power. Because of this, I would not recommend disabling the INH pin unless the customer desires the device to always be powered.

The INH pin will not affect the overall power consumption if it is not connected. It is designed as a high voltage logic output.

    Regards,

    Ethan
