DS320PR1601: Gen5 can't link issue

Part Number: DS320PR1601

Tool/software:

Hi,

We have occur PCIE Gen4 can link but PCIE Gen5 can't link issue, we have no eye diagram waveform yet, but we have adjust all EQ setting but seems result is the same.

Anything else we can try before measure the Gen5 eye diagram?

Thanks!

Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Does the PCIe Gen 5 test use the same endpoint as the PCIe Gen 4 test?

    Best,

    Evan Su

  • Hi Evan,

    Yes, same endpoint.

  • Hi Jeff,

If the same endpoint has no problems at Gen 4 but can't make a link at Gen 5, then my suspicion would be that there are SI problems at the Gen 5 speed leading to the eye opening being too small. However it is not really possible to diagnose the SI problems from an in-system margin test if there is no link at all. Besides measuring the Gen 5 eye diagram, the only other idea I have for gathering information is to run a margin test or some other eye diagram measurement at Gen 4. If the eye opening is already not very good at Gen 4 (where SI problems are typically less severe), then usually it can be expected that the Gen 5 eye diagram would be worse.

    Best,

    Evan Su
