DS160PT801: Root port/REFCLK on another PCB

Hi Forum, and happy holidays!

I am designing an E3 SSD board that sits in a 4-slot backplane.  This is a VPX board and I believe, generally, the REFCLK supported on the backplane is 25MHz.

I saw this diagram in another thread, this is my configuration as well.

Was this configuration ever made to  work?
