DP83TC814R-Q1: DP83TC814R-Q1 supported by AM64 out of the box ?

Hi Experts,

I am planning to use DP83TC814 on the CPSW port of AM64x-devices.

However, currently we are facing the issue that the MDIO is not able to communicate to the DP83TC814.

However the DP83TC814 as well as the DP83TC814 on ti.com is currently linked to: ti-ethernet-software/linux_drivers/dp83tc812.c at main · TexasInstruments/ti-ethernet-software · GitHub which is then showing the DP83TC812 driver and not 814.

Where can we find the suitable drivers for DP83TC814 or will this Phy be supported Oout of the box (I would guess no because it is not listed on the AM64-list of supported Phys)

Hi Alex,

DP83TC814 is supported by dp83tc812.c driver. For MDC/MDIO communication issue, I would recommend to follow SNLA431.

Can you please probe the CLKOUT pin to ensure the device is powered on? Expected signal is 25Mhz clock. And reset line to ensure the device is not in reset?

Then, please probe MDC/MDIO lines and check for toggling while you are attempting to perform a read or write.

Hi David,

I just wanted to get back on this.

It seems like the PHY is working using the PRU-MDIO.
However, it seems like there is an issue using the CPSW-MDIO.

Is there any reference design where we can test this PHY on AM64 with CPSW?

I know we have INDSYS-1379 which is actually using the PRUs.

Hi Alex,

We have available TMDS64EVM and DP83TC812-IND-SPE-EVM, this connection uses CPSW.

Now that you have verified the operation of the PHY, I would recommend to create a new ticket for the AM64 team. They will be able to assist better with the correct MDIO configuration using CPSW.
