TS5USBA224: use as 1:2/2:1 USB2.0 mux and only switch D+/D-

Part Number: TS5USBA224
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USBA225, TS3USB221, TMUXHS221

Tool/software:

I'm trying to clarify some confusing information I've been given.  Can I use a TS5USBA224 as a 2:1/1:2 mux for USB2.0 D+/D- signals?  Will the shunt resistor interfere with USB2.0 operation?  The datasheet for TS5USBA224 only illustrates D+/D- and audio L/R as the muxed endpoints whereas the TS3USBA225 does list USB2.0 on all ports. Is 225 just the 3:1/1:3 version of the 224 or is there more?

Thanks,

Christian

  • Hi Christian,

    Can I use a TS5USBA224 as a 2:1/1:2 mux for USB2.0 D+/D- signals?

I believe this mux can be used as a 2:1, however, we do have other 2:1 muxes, like the TS3USB221 and the TMUXHS221 that may be better choices depending on the use case.

Will the shunt resistor interfere with USB2.0 operation?

In this case, Ron is high enough to where it may not have that much of an impact on the signal.

Is 225 just the 3:1/1:3 version of the 224 or is there more?

I believe the TS3USBA225 is meant to be like a 3:1 version of this device, however, there are likely to be some internal changes made to the device to cause some differences in performance between the two. For example, the Ron is different between each device.

Again, if a 2:1 mux is all you're looking for with no audio requirements, I would recommend the TS3USB221 or the TMUXHS221.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
