DP83867IR: Required decoupling capacitance

Part Number: DP83867IR

Tool/software:

Pages 120-121 of the datasheet show quite a lot of decoupling capacitors used on the part, generally a combination of 1uF and 0.1uF on each with some added 10uF and 0.01uF caps as well.  Page 121 is showing a total of 30 decoupling capacitors per chip.

Is this conservative, and if so is it known if a smaller decoupling bank can be used?  For example, can some of the larger capacitors be eliminated?

  • Hi Farron,

The variety of decoupling capacitors are to filter a wider range of noise on the supply rails.

The recommendation will depend on the amount of noise you expect on these rails from the supplies & environment.

Smaller decoupling banks could be used if noise is not a significant concern in the application.

    Thank you,

    Evan
