DP83867IS: Preamble Suppression Capable

Part Number: DP83867IS

Tool/software:

Hi All,

I have a question about the DP83867.

Is it possible that a communication error will occur if the Preamble setting below is 0 (=Normal management operation)?

Or is it possible that a communication error will occur if the connected device's Preamble Suppression Capable is not enabled?

The preamble provides to potential receivers a short training interval before the effective frame starts.

The preamble is made of a known sequence of bytes with known value. First 7 bytes are made of 10101010 and last octect is 10101011 and is called start of frame delimiter. The preamble suppression, if enabled, is to not transmitting the preamble packet.

But is this a general question or are you seeing a specific communication error with your design?

    Thanks

    David

  • David-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

We are currently responding to reports from customers that devices connected to the DP83867 may not linkup.

We are checking the status registers of the DP83867 and link partner.
The DP83867's preamble suppression function is set to 1. The link partner's preamble suppression function is set to 0, so it is off.

I wanted to confirm if this was the cause of the failure to link.

For example, if the DP83867's preamble suppression function is off, will it not linkup?

I don't believe the preamble suppression is the cause of the linkup issue.

Can the customer share more detail on this linkup issue? Are they seeing this issue at 10/100/1000Mbps? Can you provide the strap settings they are implementing right now?

    Thanks

    David
