TCAN1044V: What should I pay attention to when there are many CAN BUS groups?

Part Number: TCAN1044V

Tool/software:

Hi team,

What should I pay attention to when there are many CAN BUS groups?
Is it necessary to add TVS or ESD protection to each CAN BUS? Thanks

Any application reference?

  • Hi Jimmy,

    • Termination resistors
    • Length and quality of wiring. Longer wires can lead to signal degradation.
    • Bus loading - each bus typically supports 30 nodes.
    • Grounding and shielding - avoid ground loops, maintain a common ground reference across all CAN bus groups and use shielded cables for environments susceptible to EMI.
    • Use CMC if additional concerns
    • Use ESD protection close to connectors or entry points - We promote ESD2CAN for all CAN applications.

Please see section 9.2.2.1 of the data sheet as reference. You may further see section 5 of Introduction to the Controller Area Network (CAN), thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
