THVD1410: Substitute of MAX22500E

Part Number: THVD1410

Tool/software:

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering RS485 transceiver and has questions.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

ーーー

(1) The THVD1410 has the Extended Common Mode notation, and the datasheet states that it has low jitter even outside the general RS-485 specifications.

Is it correct to assume that devices with the Extended Common Mode notation are suitable for long-distance transmission?

(2) I was considering SN65HVD2x as a replacement for the MAX22500E, is a fairly old device.

I would like to consider a newer product if possible.

Also, the built-in equalizer is effective at speeds of 1Mbps or more, and 1Mbps is only effective at long distances, so I am looking for a substitute product.

(3) Could you please provide the other device for high-speed long-distance transmission?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

The extended common mode helps when there are larger ground shifts. This does occur more often with longer distance communication though normally the RS485 standard's common mode range is enough.

    (2) I was considering SN65HVD2x as a replacement for the MAX22500E, is a fairly old device.

This is the only family of devices that I'm aware of that has a built in equalizer circuit. These devices have gone through our newer 300mm wafer redesign so this device is technically new.

    (3) Could you please provide the other device for high-speed long-distance transmission?

I think the THVD1410 that you chose is a good candidate for long distance transmission. The VoD for this device at a 54 ohm load is 3.5V typical. The larger the VoD is for slow data rate and long distance, the better the signal to noise you will get. I don't think we have many other devices with higher VoD than this.

If you have dedicated RS485 receivers (not transmitter) then the Sn65HVD2x family would be good for long distance receiving.
