TSB41AB3: Need a solution to replace a TSB17BA IEEE1394 cable transceiver

Tool/software:

I have a legacy IEEE1394 design which uses a TSB17BA part which is now obsolete. It is a 1394 cable transceiver used to drive CAT5 cables through ethernet style magnetics. I am wondering what other type of cable driver would work in its place? For exampl could I use an ethernet cable driver?

There is no direct replacement for the TSB17BA1.

As far as I can see, all Ethernet transceivers have a *MII interface, i.e., they assume that you are using Ethernet frames on top of the Ethernet physical layer.

Anyone aware of other protocols that may provide a cat5 1394 signal coming from a 1394 transceiver/arbiter IC?

TI 1394 products were designed 20 years ago, almost all system and designers are not at TI anymore.

So is it fair to say that when TI obsoleted the TSB17BA1 they also obsoleted the ability to run Firewire over CAT5 cables? Seems thats the case if TI has no replacement part and no other vendor makes a 1394 to CAT5 transceiver.
