Hello, I want use TCAN1043A-Q1 as a bus activity monitor for some bench work I am doing. My plan is to use the RXD signal along with an LED driver to display bus activity.
I want to confirm that I am connecting the IC up correctly as a stand-alone bus monitor.

pin 1 TXD Connect to 5V since I won't be transmitting
pin 2 GND
pin 3 VCC to 5V power from regulator
pin 4 RXD to the LED driver to display bus activity
pin 5 VIO to 5V
pin 6 Enable to 5V
pin 7 INH no connection
pn 8 nFault no connection
pin 9 Wake no connection
pin 10 Vsup to 12V same as input to 5V regulator
pin 11 no connection
pin 12 CAN L
pin 13 CAN H
pin 14 nSTB connect to 5V

My next question is, does this Chip work with CAN FD and J1939 as well as standard CAN?

Thanks for posting on E2E!

What in particular drew you to the TCAN1043A? If your goal is just a straight-forward way to read the bus, then I would recommend TCAN1057A in Silent mode (only receiver is active) or TCAN1044A in Normal mode. Both of these have less pins and are less complex overall.

Either way, all three devices support J1939, classic CAN, and CAN FD. But TCAN1043A will still work fine.

As for the pins, I do not see any issue with that configuration. Your device will enter Normal mode after power up. You could also tie VSUP to 5V for simplicity.

As a side note, using an EVM with the pins setup to match above might save you some development time depending on how far you are into this project.

Thank you for your recommedation for a less comples IC. I found TCAN1044ADRQ1 that is available. What is the DRQ1 suffix. Is it any different than what you recommended?
