THVD2410: Question about ESD ratings.

Part Number: THVD2410

Tool/software:

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using THVD2410 for their next products.

But they are considering using ADI, LTC2862AIDD-2 too because LTC device has higher ESD HBM ratings than THVD.

THVD2410 HBM        : 16kV (Bus terminals)
LTC2862AIDD-2 HBM: 40kV (Human Body Model, A or B to GND, VCC, B or A, 1μF Between VCC and GND)

I think LTC test condition is different from THVD because 1uF capacitor is attached between VCC and GND in case of LTC device.

Our current question is the follow.

Q.
Can THVD2410 HBM performance achieve 40kV if the test condition is same as LTC2862AIDD-2 one?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya,

There is a chance the THVD2410 would survive a 40kV HBM test on the bus pins. Note that the 1uF capacitor between VCC and GND is the decoupling capacitor and will not likely change the ESD results.

However, I would ask the customer why they need that high of HBM protection on the bus pins specifically? Are they expecting HBM voltages higher than 16kV?

Additionally, the IEC 61000-4-2 rating is more significant for general ESD protection. This document shows that IEC 61000-4-2 is more rigorous in its methodology compared to HBM:

THVD2410 has 12kV IEC 61000-4-2 protection compared to the ADI device's 8kV. So this is something to highlight.

    Best,

    Ethan
