DP83TG720R-Q1: Test Mode 7, read the Bit Error Rate (BER)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I want to find a way to read the BER. In PMA mode, the test mode 7 should be selected shown in 4.1 PMA Testing Procedure in the datasheet.

According to 802.3bp, the BER count can be read via bit 5:0 of the PCS status 2 register. However, these bits of PCS status 2 register of this PHY are reserved.

Is there any way to evaluate the BER of this PHY?

Hi Neo,

Apologies for the delay. The PHY supports checking for errors using PRBS_STATUS_6 register (0x0620). I'd recommend reviewing data sheet section "Built-In Self-Test For Datapath" for details on configuring the PRBS gen/checker. Table 7-2 Datapath BIST Programming has details on PRBS checker configuration.
