TMUXHS4212: Does the high speed I/O capable for VCM of USB3.2 - 10Gbps?

Part Number: TMUXHS4212

Tool/software:

Hi Experts:

My customer will use TMUXHS4212 for USB-C application and support up to 10Gbps

They found the high speed I/O just tolerate VCM(max) = 1.8V at VCC=3.3V

In USB3.2 Spec, we see the VCM max might be up to 2.2V on connector side

If I have misunderstood, please correct me,

Along with this description, if we draw the schematic as figure shown

Will the RX side(red circle) of TMUXHS4212 be damaged by VCM?

  • Hello Adrian,

You are correct, the TMUXHS4212 when it is powered by 3.3V can have an input signal of up to 1.8V.

I cannot guarantee device performance during an application when it exceeds recommended specifications.
The RX side pins might get damaged. 2.2V is within absolute maximum ratings, which an exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability.

    Thanks,

    Nir
