PCA9548A: Hot-Plug Feature

Part Number: PCA9548A

Tool/software:

Hi, I wish to know more about the hot insertion feature support on this device, there are not much details written in the datasheet except for the 1 line.

My project need to support Hot-plug/hot swap for SSD drive.

The SSD drive I2C is connected to PCA9548A before connected to BMC master.

should there be any protection at the I2C line, will there be any issue if connected directly?

What is the mechanism inside PCA9548A that enable hot insertion?

Thanks!

Jeffrey

  • The PCA9548A is a simple switch that disconnects all disabled downstream channels. To prevent the hot(un)plug operation from disturbing the other devices on the I²C bus, you must disable the affected downstream channel before the hot(un)plug happens.

You will likely need additional ESD/TVS protection.
