DP83869HM: Using RJ45 connectors with integrated magnetics

Part Number: DP83869HM

Tool/software:

Hello TI team!

I have a question regarding RJ45 connectors with integrated magnetics - in one of our development projects we are planning to use DP83869HM as a PHY for copper interface. One of the possible RJ45 connectors which we are considering is a connector with integrated magnetics and integrated central tap connection (as shown in the picture).

I know about the recommendation in the datasheet of the PHY and wanted to ask - is the configuration with DP83869HM and connected central taps be functional with for example decreased EMI performance or the PHY won't work at all?

BR,

Marek

  • Hi Marek,

Yes, the recommendation is to have each center tap to be isolated from one another and be connected to GND via a decoupling capacitor. I would not suggest to use this RJ45 connector since it can cause channel to channel crosstalk and decreased EMI performance.

Please let me know if you have other questions.

    Best,
    J
