Could I use SN75LVCP600 as SATA3.0 redriver?

Customer need 2 SATA signal chain used in same time.

Is it possible to insert the chip onto the link as shown in this diagram?

Is there any additional design guidance and recommendations and considerations?

Hi,

Yes, SN75LVCP600S can be used to support SATA3.0 as shown in this diagram. I recommend also considering DS64BR111. This is a bidirectional SATA3.0 redriver.

You can refer to schematics provided in the SN75LVCP600S-EVM and DS64BR111EVK user guides for design guidance.

My customer currently already use DS160PR410RNQR to design SATA3.0 redriver.

Customer want to know should he add FB and 49.9ohm resistance behind cap? like this application.

Hi Tony,

This FB + 50ohm resistor network is only necessary when SN75LVPE3101 is used with SATA3.0. The reasoning for this network is explained in the Detailed Design Procedure section of the datasheet. This network does not need to be included with SN75LVCP600S.

Is there a reason the customer is switching from DS160PR410 to SN75LVCP600S? Are they also considering SN75LVPE3101?

Hi Tony,

The FB network is unnecessary with DS160PR410 because the RX-Detect mechanism can be disabled on this device.

I would like to ask about the life cycle of SN75LVCP600S because it looks old, which one you recommend in the current application, because the customer's project plan mass produced in 2027.

Hi Tony,

I checked with our product marketing team and there is no plan to EOL SN75LVCP600S in the near future. Additionally we have seen 600S successfully used in many customer SATA applications.

That being said, DS160PR410 and SN75LVPE3101 are much more recently released devices and may be a better choice if this project has a long lifecycle.

How many years will this project be in production? How many SATA lanes need to be supported in this application? Can you share the name of the customer?

SN75LVCP600S can be used for this project. If there is still concern about the lifecycle of 600S, I recommend using SN75LVPE3101 instead.
