TPD1E10B06: Vertiv USB-C with FTDI issues, claims it is TVS diode issue

Tool/software:

Vertiv says that the ECF is working well with the exception being the USB interface.

FTDI claims the TVS diodes may be the cause.

Schematic attached and llayout for the USB C 12pin connector.

Please give opinion on the layout and schematic with the TPD1E10B06 USB-C connector.

Hi Mike,

Can you elaborate more on what is happening? Is the IC being damaged from an ESD strike? Also, what voltage is being run on the VBUS line?

It is not being damaged. USB communication is not working. They claim that layout and TVS diodes are causing USB to not work properly. I guess it is probably more about our ESD122 on the D lines than TPD1E10B06 on Vbus.

Hi Mike,

Based on the schematic and layout, I don't see anything wrong with the use of ESD122. It looks like the diode is as close to the connector as possible which is recommended for ESD protection. Will the USB communication work with no diode?
