SN65HVD1781A-Q1: Support for achieving ASIL B with RS-485 transceiver

Part Number: SN65HVD1781A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

We have an ASIL B ECU design project with the need for a RS-485 transceiver. If not wrong, we think you don't have andy ASIL B transceivers available, the best fit we found is this one, that is safety capable. We would like support in order to integrate this transceiver into our design in a way that complies with ASIL B and support on the methodology that must be followed.

Best regards,

Laura

  • Laura,

You are correct in that we don't have an RS-485 transceiver that is ASIL rated. The SN65HVD1781A-Q1 does have functional safety supporting documentation located in the product folder on TI.com. This can be used to help develop an ASIL rated system using our device, but it is not a guarantee.

Please let us know what kind of support you need and we can help.

    Regards,

    Eric Hackett

  • Thank you for your quick reply. According to ISO 26262, COTS hardware components or parts that are not originally developed or designed within the context to the ISO 26262 and are considered safety-related, need to be evaluated (according to ISO 26262-8.13). We understand this would apply to this tranceiver since, it is not ASIL B designed (even if it is safety capable) and it is safety related in our design.

If this interpretation is correct and we have to perform said evaluation for this HW part, could you provide us support on this evaluation process (according to ISO 26262-8.13)? Either through examples that you may have available or through feedback as we develop our analysis and test plan.
