DP83869HM: Confirmation on DP83869 for 1000BASE-T to 1000BASE-X Conversion

Hi,

We are planning to use the DP83869 as a media converter to convert 1000BASE-T (Ethernet PHY) to 1000BASE-FX (Fiber PHY). Could you please confirm whether the DP83869 is suitable for this application?

Additionally, could you also confirm if the SFP interface of the DP83869 supports a bi-directional SFP transceiver?

    Hello,

    DP83869 should be suitable for this application. Please check out the media converter 1G setting in our datasheet. 

    The SFP transceiver should be bi-directional, as this would be how the FX application is sent out and received by the FX link partner.

    Could you please confirm if it is correct to understand that the DP83869 supports bidirectional SFP when the SFP transceiver itself is bidirectional? Also, does the DP83869 support both single-mode and multimode fiber SFP for Bi-directional communication?

    Hello,

    DP83869 should support a bidirectional SFP as the FX communication should be bidirection to get the TX and RX connections. Inside our lab, we have seen the PHY work with AXFE-1314 and AFBR-5715 with no issues. You may use this as reference of what DP83869 can support.

    Hi,

    Could you please confirm the strap configuration for 1000BASE-T (Copper) to 1000BASE-X (Fiber)? 

    1. JTAG_TDO (OPMODE_0) as open

    2. RX_D3 (OPMODE_1) as open

    3. RX_D2 (OPMODE_2) pull up to VDDIO through 2.49K.

    Additionally, could you clarify the correct LED strap settings for 1000BASE-T to 1000BASE-X with Auto-Negotiation and Auto MDIX?

    Hello,

    These are the correct straps to place DUT into 1G Media Converter Mode.

    For LED straps, LED1 and 2 are negligible since they only control CU advertisement. So long as the CU link partner is also advertising 1G, this shouldn't be an issue. However, as best practice, you may set these both as PU.
