DS125DF111: DS125DF111, DS125DF410, DS110DF410 PRBS generator evaluate

Part Number: DS125DF111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS110DF410, DS125DF410, , DS125DF1610

Tool/software:

Hi TI

we have new requirement need to evaluate for PRBS generator,

  • Data-Rate(Tx): ~3Gbps.
  • Rise/Fall: 30ps(Min) and 42ps(Max)
  • P-P Swing: 0.2V - 0.45V
  • PRBS Generator: PRBS7
  1. Please check whether these components meet customer’s requirements or suggest other components. (DS125DF111, DS125DF410, DS110DF410)
  2. What is the requirement for input data/clock to generate clock for PRBS to generate data.
  3. What is the approximate time to program PRBS generator, input clock to data output.
  4. The customer wants to have a switch between PRBS circuit and IO channel. Any issues with having switch connection, to differentiate from digital connection?

Thanks

Jialin

  • Hi Jialin,

    1. The DS125DFxxx devices are the best devices to meet data-rate of 3 Gbps.  The DS110DFxxx devices will only support up to 2.825 Gbps (8.5 - 11.3 Gbps / 4).
However, these devices have a minimum VOD of 600 mVppd.  Is it possible to confirm with the customer if their swing specification is differential or single ended?
    2. You can use a sub-rate input clock.  For 3 Gbps, I'd recommend 1.5 GHz or 750 MHz.
    3. This isn't something we've characterized.  Typically, register level operations take place very quickly, likely within <10 ms. What time is the customer targeting?
    4. Is it possible to share a block diagram of this?

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

Regarding question#4, here is a block diagram. Can you please help to check if there is any problem when the switch is connected to In0 and retimer is working mode(no data output but enabled)?

    Thanks,

    Ling

  • Hi Ling,

You can have a MUX in the signal chain as you have shown.  You will need a high speed MUX in order to ensure good high speed performance.

Have you been in contact with a TI field engineer regarding this project?

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

Thanks for the reply, We haven't contact with TI engineer yet since this project is under evaulation.

May I know if the DS125DF1610 is the best choice for achieving a VOD of 450mVdd and meet data-rate of 3Gbps?

    Thanks,

    Ling

  • Hi Ling,

    Thanks for the information.

Yes, I believe DS125DF1610 is the best choice for achieving a VOD of 450mVppd and 3 Gbps.

    Thanks,

    Drew
