TUSB2E11: Inquiry on TUSB2E11 OVP Functionality Specifications

Part Number: TUSB2E11

Tool/software:

Dear Ti,

During the evaluation of the TUSB2E11 device for our design, we have identified a lack of detailed description regarding the OVP (Overvoltage Protection) functionality in the datasheet. To finalize the design validation, we require the following clarifications:

  1. Overvoltage Detection Thresholds (VOVP_TH)
    • Low-to-High Transition Threshold: Exact voltage value triggering OVP activation.
    • High-to-Low Transition Threshold: Voltage hysteresis for OVP release.
  2. OVP Operational Principles
    • Circuit topology (e.g., comparator-based detection or analog monitoring).
    • Response latency from fault detection to protective action (e.g., disconnect or current limiting).
    • Behavior under sustained overvoltage conditions (fail-safe mode or auto-retry mechanism).

Please provide the above specifications or direct us to the relevant technical documentation. This information is critical for ensuring system reliability in USB2.0 hot-plug scenarios.

Best regards

  • Hello,

Some of these answers may be confidential.  I'm following up internally to confirm what we can share and I'll follow up ASAP.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus

  • Hi Nicholaus,

Thank you for the quick follow-up. I completely understand the need for internal confirmations on certain details.

Would it be possible to share the non-confidential information currently available while we await internal approvals on the remaining items? This phased approach could help streamline the process without compromising your compliance protocols.

I appreciate your flexibility on this and am happy to accommodate any timelines required for internal reviews. Let me know what works best for your team.

    Looking forward to the updates!

    Best regards

  • Hi Hu Zhiwen,

None of this information is not available in the datasheet, so all of it is confidential until I get approval.

I have asked for this information internally again to see if we can get an answer soon.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus

  • Hi Hu Zhiwen,

    1. Overvoltage Detection Thresholds (VOVP_TH)
      • Low-to-High Transition Threshold: Exact voltage value triggering OVP activation.
        4.4V (Typical)
      • High-to-Low Transition Threshold: Voltage hysteresis for OVP release.
        4.4V (Typical)
    2. OVP Operational Principles
      • Circuit topology (e.g., comparator-based detection or analog monitoring).
We don't share circuit topology information on this public forum.
      • Response latency from fault detection to protective action (e.g., disconnect or current limiting).
        450ns
      • Behavior under sustained overvoltage conditions (fail-safe mode or auto-retry mechanism).
Auto-retry.  It will continue to try and operate normally, but packet corruption is likely due to OVP conditions.   If the interrupt is cleared and enabled before OVP condition ends, interrupt will be triggered again. To confirm OVP condition has ended, clear and enable OVP interrupt repeatedly until it is no longer triggered.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus
