DS25BR440: LOS Output Drive Strength

Part Number: DS25BR440

Tool/software:

Hi all,

I am investigating the DS25BR440 and the LOS pins for driving some LEDs. What is the output drive of these LOS pins? If it is insufficient to drive ~25mA of load, will I need external buffers to boost the drive strength?

Regards,

Filipe Rubinstein

  • Hi Filipe,

These are open drain pins, so they do not have any drive strength. They require a pull up to set high, and they will be pulled down at loss of signal. You will need to invert your logic.

I recommend using a mosfet with the LED in series to ground on the source connection and the gate driven by a weak pull up and the LOS pins. Have the drain connection of the external mosfet pulled up to 3.3V through a resistor.
