SN65HVD251-Q1: Models available for simulation

Part Number: SN65HVD251-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1044A-Q1, , TCAN1044-Q1

Tool/software:

Hey CAN Transceiver Team,

I have a customer working on a new development and is interested in a few TI CAN TRX ICs. While looking at the landing page for the SN65HVD251-Q1 we noticed that there was no simulation model provided. That page also recommends the TCAN1044A-Q1 as a newer version to consider but even on that newer device page we don't see a simulation model provided in the Design Tools & Simulation section.

Do any of these devices have simulation models that you can share with us?

-Matt

  • Hi Matt,

TCAN1044A and its variants would be our recommendation compared to the SN devices.

Two particular devices I would recommend that have IBIS models are TCAN1044-Q1 (TCAN1044A is the updated version, but this model is still representative of it), and TCAN34xx devices. Our TCAN34xx line of devices are 8 pin CAN transceivers that operate at 3.3V instead of the typical 5V, and they are compatible with other 5V CAN transceivers.

Let me know if that is what your customer is looking for, or if they have any further questions.

    Best,

  • Thank you for the detailed feedback Ethan and for sharing the devices with simulation models!

I've gone ahead and relayed all of this to my customer and will have them comment back on this thread directly with any follow-up questions they may have.

  • Hi Ethan,

My customer pointed out that those links you shared have IBIS models only. We cannot find a way to use them for TINA simulation.
Are there TINA models or simulation projects for these devices like you have for op amps or other analog devices?

    -Matt

  • Hi Matt,

The IBIS models are currently the only simulation tools for the TCAN104xx range of devices. In general our transceiver team primarily supports IBIS models for our devices and occasionally PSPICE models.

    Best regards,

    Ethan

  • Hi Ethan,

Thanks for the clarification! My customer is monitoring this thread so I'm hoping you can help to get them on the right path for simulating and designing a TI CAN interface into their system. With IBIS models being the only supported simulation tool for the TCAN104xx range of devices; what simulation software do you recommend they use to test the performance of the devices?

If you have any additional advice or guidance for the customer please do share with us. Thanks!

  • Hi Matt,

Happy to help! There are a variety of simulation softwares that can be used for IBIS models: we use Keysight ADS, but Hyperlynx or similar modeling softwares also work.

Depending on how much time and effort the customer wants to give this, IBIS models can potentially be converted to TINA or SPICE models. There are several resources on the web (such as conversion tools), but this official link might be of interest:

Let me know if that helps or if you need any other assistance,
