DS90UB962-Q1: Crystal Confirm

Part Number: DS90UB962-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer asked if the 23MHz crystal SiT8924BAA73-18E-23.000000D can be used with DS90UB962?

  • Hi Xiaowei,

Here are a couple comments based on the REFCLK requirement table in the 962 datasheet.

    1. Our device requires a max rise/fall time (10% - 90%) of 6ns. The oscillator selection of option A (SiT8924BAA73-18E-23.000000D) is a lower drive strength of 3.19ns at 5pF. If customer can confirm that the capacitance on the REFCLK trace is 5pF or less, then this is fine. If there is higher capacitance in the layout, then they may need to choose an oscillator with stronger drive strength.
    2. The datasheet specifies the oscillator jitter in terms of RMS jitter. The 962 datasheet specs jitter in terms of peak-to-peak jitter. You can convert RMS jitter to peak-to-peak jitter with a BER of 10^-12.
      1. Jpk-pk = N x Jitter RMS
      2. N = 14.069 (with a BER of 10^-12)
      3. Jpk-pk = 14.069 x 3ps = 42.207ps

The jitter is within the requirements of the 962 and can be used.

  • Hi Justin,

Can 23MHz±50ppm oscillator be used for 962?

    Best Regards,

    Xiaowei Zhang

  • Hi Xiawei,

Yes, 23MHzz±50ppm oscillator can be used. It also needs to meet the jitter specs and other requirements, as defined in the table above.
