TUSB2E221: insertion loss compensation for the trace length

Part Number: TUSB2E221

Tool/software:

Hi Nicholaus,

What is the insertion loss compensation for the layout trace length assessment? Thank you.

Best regards,

Randy

  • Hi Randy,

Insertion loss depends on a number of factors, including board stackup material, number of vias, passive components, as well as trace length, datarate, etc.

In this case, the product you are asking about is a TUSB2E221.  The eUSB2 specification says that these is the maximum amount of loss allowed between an eUSB2 repeater and the USB connector.

USB high-speed (480Mbps) doesn't have high losses since it's a relatively low frequency of 240MHz.  A very rough estimate would be 0.1dB/inch.  So, you should be able to support 10 inch traces between host and repeater, and 18 inches between the repeater and the connector.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus
