TUSB212: Redriver TUSB212 prevents communication

Part Number: TUSB212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB211A, TUSB216

Tool/software:

Hi, I used TUSB212 in a design with USB coming from a long cable to a PCB.
I made the design but didn't had the option to test for reasons of special connectors.

My customer reported from integration test that no communication at all is possible with TUSB212 fitted.
After removing it, everything works fine.

From debugging: there were signals toggling on DP.
But on DN there was a stable ~1V !
Any action on RSTN, EQ or Boost wasn't successful.

Can the IC be placed in wrong order? What would happen then?
I don't see a clear Pin1 marking - not on the IC and not in the datasheet.
I can read a marking "22". My Pin1 is on left side with this view - is this correct?
Do you have other ideas what's wrong?

  • Hi Falk,

Could you monitor the CD and ENA_HS pins and see what activity you see on those? Those pins can tell us whether the redriver is enabled, or if it should be disabled.

Going by the schematic, I don't believe I see any issues with the DC_BOOST or EQ levels.

There should be a dot on the top of the package that indicates pin 1. Additionally, on the bottom of the device, pin 1 has a notched corner which should indicate it. It's possible the pins are setup correctly, I would use those two markings to make sure the pin is soldered down in the correct position.

So if you hold RSTN low, you don't see any different in performance, I.E the USB connection being fixed? RSTN being low/the device being in reset should be the same as removing the TUSB212.

Additionally, if you wanted to, you could try with a different P2P redriver, like the TUSB211A or the TUSB216, and see if that has improved performance.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
