DS250DF810: can we consider DS250DF810 as qsfp28 module Retimer?

Part Number: DS250DF810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS250DF410, DS250DF230, DS560DF810, DS560DF410

Tool/software:

As i see mostly  DS250DF810 is used on host side rather than line side of the qsfp. Is it possible to use this on line side too? Any applicate note on this is available?

  • Hi Keerthi,

Unfortunately, we do not have an application note for this.  It is possible to use this device in a module.  We have seen DS250DF410 (4 channel version of DS250DF810) used in AEC before.

For use in an optical module, please note that DS250DF810 has high minimum CTLE boost.  We would recommend a minimum of 3 dB insertion loss between a source TX and DS250DF810 RX in order to help avoid over equalizing the signal.

If you are considering any SFP modules, DS250DF230 might also be worth considering.  This device has reduced minimum CTLE boost relative to other DS2x0DFx10 devices.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

Thanks for the crisp details. Is there any version of DS250DF230  for QSFP application type , like 4 or 8 channel?

  • Hi Keerthi,

No, we don't have a 4/8 channel version of DS250DF230.

You might also consider DS560DF410/DS560DF810.  These are both suitable for low insertion loss cases, but will require a MCU in the QSFP to configure these retimers.  We have some application notes for these devices.  Please see the "request more information" section of the product page.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

As you said DS250DF410 used for AEC, This will be very similar for us, its just an optic. only things is CTLE boost how to handle we need to check. Anyhow do you have application guide for AEC things?

  • Hi Keerthi,

We have an app note for AEC for DS560DF410.  You'll find this on the secure resource page (request using the link I highlighted in my previous response).

I'd also recommend reviewing the programming guide for DS250DF410.  It has some reference configurations that can be used as an example.  You can find the programming guide for DS250DF410 on the secure resource page for this device.  Please use the request link on the product page.

Happy to support any configuration questions you might have pertaining to AEC / optical module using DS250DF410.

    Thanks,

    Drew
