TUSB9261: SAS Hardware support

I am in the process of selecting drives to connect to adapters implementing the TUSB9261 chipset, and I am curious if the product natively supports SAS drives.

The pinout for SAS and SATA are nearly identical, but while SATA drives will almost universally work on SAS controllers, some SAS drives require specialized hardware control features on the host itself.

I've searched through the datasheet and found mentions to SCSI and Host-bus-interface, but nothing explicitly calling out SAS compatibility.

Hi Kurt,

We don't have any data supporting SAS compatibility. The TUSB9261 is only compliant to the Serial ATA Specification Revision 2.6.

SCSI is mentioned in the context of USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP) USB class support

Well noted. In any case, I will acquire a test SAS device to confirm or reject compatibility for future lookup.

After testing with various other adapters as well as the TUSB9261, I can confirm that SAS drives requiring explicit hardware control cannot be enumerated with these chipsets.
